Is the transformation complete? …click and read this article at apple insider.
I’m thinkin’ if Apple can’t even offer up one more round of new Mac Pro machines in the old cases using their Thunderbolt bus architecture and the new chips from intel then the transformation will be complete. Apple will have finally turned its back on the Professional communities that played a major role in keeping it alive for 12 or more years and on whose back they (Apple) rode to advertise, promote, and position themselves with powerful Hollywood credentials.
I’m Ready to Think Different
I’d love to see either Sony (historic reputation in Media/HD production, several consecutive quarters in the red and in need of something big), or HP (just revived its PC business and needs a new story, has a significant investment in Design Software for its tablet line) announce development of a powerful new Multi-Core, Multi-Processor Media System in cooperation with Adobe.
Adobe, in turn, will present its customers a cross-grade (upgrade and switch platforms) offer for all Adobe products.
During development of digital media specific hardware acceleration and feature consideration, extend opportunities to major Professional Media software developers like Avid, DigiDesign(Pro-Tools), Autodesk (Smoke, Maya, Da-Vinci), and others to participate in the development and promotion of this new line of media production powerhouses.
Think of the ads that these guys could make with the best talent at the biggest special effects houses and post facilities…the mind boggles
Imagine Adobe flipping the script on Apple by introducing an Apple line of it’s products (iPhotoshop, iIllustrator, etc.) each with a simplified, streamlined interface and tools limited to the ones the masses use most often, and relegate its professional products to windows, and open source Linux, Free-BSD.
Yes indeed, I would love to see it. It would be Bizarro world.
Regardless of what Apple, Sony, or HP do strategically, the first computer manufacturer that announces a multi processor product line based on the available Intel chipsets and Thunderbolt bus architecture will get a lot of attention from media pros. And if adobe is willing to offer a crossgrade i’m already Thinking Different.
The best scenario is that Apple will make a fundamental commitment: Film & TV production, Special Effects and Animation, The Recording Industry and the millions of iToy users that want to take their work to the next level deserve a hardware path in iWorld to realize that dream.
It is truly amazing that Apple is sitting on $75 Billion in cash and scratching their collective head on this. If Apple fails to continue to lead in professional hardware they may not be thrown to the backseat of professional media production but they wont be driving.
